At USCA, our teacher education and early childhood education degree programs are fully accredited by the South Carolina Department of Education, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and others. When you graduate, you’ll be fully prepared to teach preschool through third grade in South Carolina.

As an early childhood education major, you’ll also take courses specific to this field of study, including Child Study and Assessment, through which you’ll earn a certificate in infant/early childhood mental health from the South Carolina Infant Mental Health Association.

As you pursue your early childhood education degree and acquire the credentials you need to become an educator, you’ll:

Learn from experts in the field. Our early childhood education degree program faculty members are experienced K–12 teachers with advanced degrees. This means that when you’re an early childhood education major here, your instructors will bring firsthand knowledge and real-world experiences to your classrooms and coursework.

Gain hands-on experience as you learn. As an early childhood education major at USCA, you’ll complete more than 750 hours of hands-on classroom experience with opportunities to student teach in local and U.S. Department of Defense schools as well as to study abroad. Through opportunities such as these, you’ll develop the skills and confidence you need to lead classrooms of your own after graduation.

Take courses in classrooms with small class sizes. When you earn your Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education at USCA, you’ll learn inside classrooms with a total of about 15 students. This will provide you with a more personalized learning experience, one-on-one time with your instructors, and meaningful discussions with your fellow early childhood education majors.

When you pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education at USCA, you’ll take a variety of general education courses rooted in the liberal arts to help you develop critical thinking and communication skills, among others.

If you would like to teach pre-K–3 in South Carolina, a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from USCA will allow you to do just that. Should you wish to pursue another endeavor, our Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education has prepared graduates to hold titles as after-school program coordinators, Teaching English as a Second Language educators (overseas), or education coordinators at zoos, museums, and other institutions.
