Referrals and Intakes
Referrals
Individuals interested in seeking services at the USCA Psychology Clinic should call (803) 641-3775 to complete a 20-30 minute phone referral. A staff member will ask questions about the individual, reason for seeking services, how the individual is being impacted by their psychological concerns, and their goals for services. We accept referrals made by other providers as well as self-referrals. Individuals referred by other providers will be contacted directly to complete the phone referral.
Once completed, phone referrals are reviewed by the Clinic Director and other clinic staff to determine appropriateness for our clinic. If accepted, staff will notify individuals that they have been placed on the waiting list. The therapy waitlist is approximately 2-4 months, and the assessment waitlist is approximately 6 months. Clinic staff contact individuals on the waiting list at regular intervals to ensure they want to remain on the waiting list.
Intake Appointments
Once assigned, individuals are contacted by the clinician who will be working with them to schedule a 1.5 to 2 hour intake session. The intake session is the first official meeting between the client and their therapist/assessor. Clients can expect to fill out paperwork (e.g., informed consent for psychological services) and engage in a structured conversation. Clinicians address how therapy works, confidentiality, scheduling, and logistics. The conversation covers clients’ history, current concerns, and goals. The information gathered helps the clinician tailor sessions to clients’ needs. Please bring payment ($15, cash or check) and any additional information required to quality for discounts (e.g., university ID, proof of income, proof of veteran status).
