The University of South Carolina Aiken's LIFE (Learning Is For Everyone) program is seeking to raise scholarship funds for its students.

The Ava & Jules Rockin' for College Benefit Concert aims to raise awareness for the USCA LIFE program. This event is scheduled for Friday, September 27 at the Icehouse Amphitheater in Lexington, SC, beginning at 5 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for kids 12 and older, while children under 12 can attend for free.

“We are still new and even despite longer existing programs, people are largely unaware of this opportunity for their children with intellectual disabilities,” said Adrienne Patterson, assistant director of USCA LIFE.

The event is a celebration for Jules Gray and Ava Shahbahrami, best friends from Lexington who are now a part of the USCA LIFE program. The two have been friends since the first grade and say they are excited about getting to attend college together.

“Music, food, local vendors are all coming together to congratulate the girls on this milestone achievement and raising money to help more students follow in their footsteps,” said Patterson. All proceeds from this event will provide scholarship funds for students.

“This is something these families never thought possible. I love being able to play a part in opening the doors of opportunity for these amazing students,” Patterson added.  “They can go to college, make friends, be independent, learn and work towards finding a job.”
