The University of South Carolina Aiken's Esports team added another win to their record over the weekend, securing the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) championship for Overwatch 2 in Florence, South Carolina.
A total of 20 students represented USCA in two PBC competitions: Overwatch 2 and Rocket League.
USCA Esports Coordinator Dr. David Morris proudly shared that the Overwatch 2 squad remained undefeated throughout both the regular season and playoffs. However, the Rocket League team faced an early exit after losing their first match to Lander University in the playoffs.
“I’m beyond thrilled with how our team performed this season and at the PBC championships,” Morris said. “Everyone dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort, and it really paid off.”
Ben Randolph, the team’s captain, echoed his coordinator’s excitement. “The team is still buzzing after the win. We put in a lot of practice, and obviously, it shows.”
Team member, Carson Ginn reflected on the journey: “It was a lot of hard work and a lot of obstacles along the way. While it might have seemed easy on the outside, there were challenges we had to overcome.”
Looking ahead, the sports is now shifting its focus to the Spring 2025 season, with League of Legends and Valorant as the next two PBC titles. “We’re aiming to build a strong team and make a serious push for championships next semester,” Morris stated.
Despite the Rocket League team’s early exit, Morris remains optimistic for the future. "We're already planning for the offseason to help the team improve and come back stronger next year.”
In 2019, the esports team took home a PBC conference title for League of Legends.
Earlier this year, the university also hosted the 2024 Esports PBC Championship for both Overwatch 2 and League of Legends.
