Anyah Farmer’s Path to Success

Anyah Farmer, a senior at USCA, is preparing to graduate with a marketing degree on May 7. Originally an Accounting major, she discovered her passion for marketing during her sophomore year and switched. Through her work with the Student Life Office, Farmer developed valuable experience in social media management, promotions, and various aspects of marketing.
She has continued to develop her marketing expertise, working as an intern in USCA’s Marketing and Communication Department during the summer of 2024. Through her work with the department team and Vice Chancellor of Marketing and Communication, Christen Engel, she gathered insights into what “behind the scenes” looks like on campus and in the community. As a student employee, Farmer could see both sides and bring innovative ideas and suggestions about what students would like to see on campus to the marketing meetings.
Jasmine Preston, the university’s digital content specialist, mentored her throughout her internship. Under Preston’s guidance, Farmer took on responsibilities such as developing social media calendars and crafting strategic content plans while learning to manage multiple social media accounts simultaneously. She also gained hands-on experience with Meta Business Suite, a platform that streamlines content scheduling and automates post publishing.
In addition, Farmer conducted a campus-wide photoshoot and paired up with the Pacesetters, Admission Ambassadors, and other student leaders on campus, managing the entire event and its processes.
In addition to her internship, Farmer also worked in the Chancellor’s Office while balancing a full-time course load. She relied on tools like her planner and the Outlook Calendar to stay organized and perform well across her responsibilities. Reflecting on her experience, she emphasized the value of internships: “They determine whether this path has the potential of being your future career,” she said. “It’s kind of like dipping your toe in the water to see what it has for you.” The real-world experience helped her gain insight into the field and kickstart her professional journey.
Thanks to USCA’s Marketing Department, Farmer learned how to confidently share her ideas in professional settings, directly contributing to the office's success. Working with staff from diverse backgrounds also helped her build adaptability and teamwork skills, qualities she believes will benefit her in any workplace.
Looking ahead, Farmer is actively seeking marketing roles in the business sector. In March, she attended USCA’s Career Fair, where she networked with employers and explored potential job opportunities.
