Coach Batts Shares Her Vision

April 21, 2025 • Angela Saxon

The University of South Carolina Aiken’s Division of Athletics welcomed Brittany Batts as its new Women’s Basketball Head Coach at a press conference on Thursday, April 17.

Batts joins USCA from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, bringing with her an impressive list of accomplishments. Most notably, she was named the 2023-24 WBCA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year. During her tenure at Gannon and previously at Shepherd, both within the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), she coached 11 all-conference players.

While at Gannon, Batts helped guide the Golden Knights to an outstanding 116-22 record. Over the past four seasons, the program made four NCAA Tournament appearances, including two trips to the Elite Eight (2024, 2025). During that span, the team also secured two PSAC Tournament titles (2022, 2024) and back-to-back PSAC West regular-season championships (2023, 2024).

Batts' introduction at the press conference was an emotional one, marked by heartfelt tears as she thanked everyone who supported her through the transition, including her mother, who made the nine-hour drive from Leesburg, Virginia, to share in the special moment. “Thank you to my parents who believed in me even when I couldn’t believe in myself,” Batts said. “I also want to thank my dad for being the best passer and rebounder there is in allowing my passion for the game of basketball to flourish. I will always cherish the many late nights shooting under the streetlights with a ‘no excuses mentality’ and I will bring that same mentality with me as a coach.”

Batts says she’s excited to grow and achieve what’s ahead for the women’s basketball team. “We will be relentless in our pursuit to grow every day on and off the court. As a team, we can achieve so much.” She also took a moment to express her gratitude to all the athletes in the athletic division, former players, and USCA’s fan base.

Just a month ago, Batts was celebrating Gannon University’s second consecutive NCAA Division II Atlantic Region title, her fourth as part of the coaching staff. She credited those achievements to a shared vision grounded in strong relationships, discipline, hard work, and a love for the game—values she now aims to bring to the women’s basketball team. “We will play for each other here while bringing a competitive spirit to the game that is fun to watch and enjoyable to live for,” she said.

“We’re excited for Batts to lead our program and young women.” Director of Athletics Todd Wilkinson said. “She is going to do great work in driving us forward.”
