Abigail Grover, a business administration major with concentrations in management and marketing, had previous experience in social media marketing through a small retail business. Eager to expand her professional horizons, she began searching for a summer internship on her own but soon realized the time constraints. She then reached out to Career Services at USCA, who connected her with the recruitment team at Ocozzio. After interviewing with the company, Abigail was offered a position as an account manager and digital intern.

Ocozzio, a B2B Marketing company headquartered in Augusta, Georgia, works with clients on various projects. When Grover started her internship, she was provided with both team and one-on-one training prior to diving into her work.  The division allowed her to sit in on weekly staff meetings as well as client business calls.

As part of her duties, she worked on projects involving the creation, renovation and auditing of client websites.  Grover helped proofread websites to make sure that the “test website matched the copy.” She checked links, ensured graphics were accurate, and helped with specific research to serve the client companies.  She was also praised for her work on a “Get to Know the Team” PowerPoint project that was digitally distributed in more than one area and division of the office.

When asked what she gained, she said that it gave her an idea of what it was like to work in a corporate setting. She also got a better understanding of many of the other areas of marketing and really enjoyed learning more about how the client call exchange works. She also noted, “I didn’t realize how much I needed those grammar classes!”

Grover believes internships are valuable because of how much she was able to learn and the overall experience. “It may turn out to be something completely different than you expected,” she said. “If you're unsure, it’s a great way to try it out without making a permanent commitment.”

As for advice to students interested in internships, Grover recommends visiting Career Services to “find resources you didn’t even know were available.”
