School of Nursing hosts Dedication of Hands Ceremony

The USCA School of Nursing held its biannual Hands Dedication ceremony on Monday, Sept. 29 for first-semester nursing students.
Students, faculty, staff and alumni recognize the event as aright of passage. It symbolizes the transition from classroom and lab instruction to hands-on patient care experiences in an acute care environment.
The School of Nursing’s skills and simulation labs provide realistic training, but following the hand dedication ceremony, students will care for real patients, with complex health needs and concerns.
"It is your hands, guided by your innermost spirit and your heart combined with the new knowledge you are learning, that will transform nursing tasks into nursing care,” Dr. Katie Chargualaf, dean of the School of Nursing. “Not only must your hands be guided by this new nursing knowledge, but they must also be guided by your spirit and your heart as you touch and care for your patients.”
