The University of South Carolina Aiken’s department of Visual & Performing Arts presents the beloved musical Godspell at the Etherredge Center, on USCA’s campus. Performances are scheduled for April 16-18 at 7:00 p.m. and April 19 at 2:00 p.m. Directed by Professor Dewey Scott-Wiley, with Musical Direction by Dr. Keely Rhodes, and Choreography by Professor Mary Fran Crook, Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz.

Based on the parables told in the Gospel of Matthew, Godspell features a small group of people helping Jesus through a variety of games, storytelling, and songs. In turn, funny, touching, and thought provoking, the show features the international hit, “Day by Day,” along with a parade of well-known and loved songs: “Prepare Ye,” “All for the Best,” “Turn Back O Man,” and “By My Side.” This production is based on the 2012 revival of the show, which added material and updated orchestrations to the 1971 original.

USCA’s production features: Cade Melnyk as Jesus, Daniel Mason as John the Baptist/Judas, Samuel Ceballos and Ethan Wood as George, Tobias Knight as Telly, Tyler Redmond as Nick, Ansleigh Tudder as Anna Maria, Kennedy Pollard as Morgan, Marisa Rivera as Lindsay, Raelyn O’Briant as Uzo, and Vivica Birt as Celise. Professor Ashley Jensen is designing the sets for the show, with Professor Collette Miller designing costumes. Student members of the production team include Jaden Napier as the Assistant Director, Wren Hamrick serves as Dance Captain, Ashleigh Ponder is the Production Stage Manager, Beth Smith and Emily Enos are the Assistant Stage Managers, Yassiar Brown is designing props, Jeasmine Blyther is designing sound, and Joshua Chambers is designing lights (with Marc Hurst as mentor).
