USCA engineering programs awarded ABET Accreditation

Aiken, SC — USCA’s bachelor’s programs in Process and Mechanical Engineering have earned accreditation from ABET, the global nonprofit that sets the gold standard for quality in technical education. ABET accreditation confirms that a program meets rigorous criteria to prepare graduates for careers in fields where precision, innovation, and public safety are paramount.
“This is an especially meaningful milestone for us,” said Dr. Scott McKay, dean of the College of Sciences and Engineering. “The mechanical engineering program is only four years old, so this was the first time it was eligible for ABET accreditation—and it passed with flying colors. ABET accreditation is one of the most rigorous discipline-specific validations in higher education. It affirms that our curriculum, faculty, and student outcomes meet the highest industry standards.”
ABET accreditation is considered the benchmark of quality assurance in engineering and related disciplines. Through a voluntary peer-review process, teams of experts from academia, industry, and government evaluate a program’s curriculum, faculty qualifications, facilities, and institutional support. Their goal is to ensure students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in critical technical fields and to serve the broader welfare and safety of society.
The recognition places USCA alongside leading universities worldwide. ABET currently accredits 4,773 programs at 930 colleges and universities across 42 countries.
“Accreditation by ABET assures students, employers, and graduate schools that our programs produce graduates who are well prepared to enter and excel in their professions,” McKay added.
