USCA is set to host Aiken in the Alley starting Feb. 15

Aiken in the Alley, a free lecture series hosted by the University of South Carolina Aiken’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences returns on Thursday, Feb. 13, with a presentation from artist and art historian Jeremy Culler titled, “Video Loops.”

Video loops are an art form that uses video technology to create visual and audio experiences. “We will think through expanded notions of site and place-based models in early performances featuring explicit engagements with the feedback video loop,” Dr. Culler said. “We will explore the ways with which artists, such as Vito Acconci, Joan Jonas, and Bruce Nauman expanded the feedback loop as a compositional medium.”

Aiken in the Alley is a series of lectures, conversations, and music from USCA faculty members at 11 a.m. on select Thursdays from Feb. 13 to Apr. 17 at 139 Newberry St. SW. Presentations are free and open to the public.

Special to this series’ events is “An Evening of Jazz with Matthew Henderson and Special Guests” on Thursday, Apr 3. at 6 p.m. Henderson, who directs the USCA Jazz Band, will feature some special guests who will perform with students from USC.
