The University of South Carolina Aiken’s 15th annual Winter Nocturne piano concert at the Etherredge Center on Thursday, Feb. 6 will feature Petronel Malan, a multiple Grammy nominee and gold medalist of numerous international piano competitions.

Lauded by reviewers as an unmistakably creative force in the classical music industry, Malan’s critical acclaim culminated in the nomination of three Grammy Awards, including “Best Instrumental Solo Album” for her debut album, Transfigured Bach.

Malan has also won five gold medals at international piano competitions throughout the U.S. These included the Louise McMahon, Missouri Southern, Los Angeles Liszt “Budapest Concert” and Hilton Head International Piano Competitions.

The Winter Nocturne began in 2009, when Ben Cox, a loyal supporter of the USCA music program, started bringing accomplished pianists to the Etherredge Center and talent to the university to build our piano program, offering an enjoyable evening of exceptional performance for the community.

All proceeds from the concert go toward benefiting the music program at USCA. Following each concert is a reception providing the attendees with a chance to meet and chat with the artist.

In addition to performing at the Winter Nocturne concert, Malan will meet with Mead Hall School students on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and host a Master Class at USCA on Wednesday, Feb. 5 to share her passion for music.
