USCA nursing student tapped for monthly honors
The Aiken Sunrise Rotary Club selected Olivia Turner, a USCA sophomore from North Augusta, as its Student of the Month for January.
The nursing student hopes to become a psychiatric nurse once she graduates and passes the nursing profession’s NCLEX exam.
Until then, she’s staying active on campus, taking part in the Greek community and student life, planning special events and leading students involved in orientation, known as Pacesetters.
“Leadership is the ability to step up and inspire people while reaching for the same goals. It’s being able to step up to help others,” Turner said.
“My most meaningful leadership experience was this past year as an orientation leader. I had no idea the impact I would make on incoming students here at USCA. It was touching knowing that expressing my love for this school would impact many students’ perspectives. Having the students I oriented continue to reach out and get involved has touched a spot in my heart I never knew was there.”
USCA has always been special to her. She says when it came time to attend college, USCA was her first choice.
“Ever since coming to campus occasionally when my mom attended, I loved being here. I never thought I would continue having the love for the campus as I do now. I could see myself growing in not just the community but in the family it has given me.”
When not in class or working, Turner likes to read and spend time with family, friends and her dog, Ella. She says if she could spend an afternoon with anyone, it would be with her grandfather who died in September. She’d like to have a chocolate milkshake with him, just one more time.
“I would share a chocolate milkshake from Cook Out with my grandad who passed in September. We would always go visit him in Wilmington, North Carolina, and bring him his favorite sweat treat. He always shared the best advice and always encouraged me to keep pushing for my goals,” Turner said.
