“Our desire is for the youth of Aiken to have access to the arts and to be inspired to make music,” said Dr. Megan Hall, director of piano studies at USCA.

“Children and teens who attend our youth outreach programs have free, local access to performances by some of the best musicians in the world, and what could be more inspiring to the next generation?”

Learning to play the piano fosters creativity and critical thinking, enhances focus and discipline, strengthens motor skills and hand-eye coordination and can help relieve stress.

The annual Winter Nocturne concert is endowed by Aikenite Ben Cox. For 17 years, he has brought world-renowned pianists to USCA and the CSRA.

“The arts are held in high esteem in Aiken, and this type of access is highly valued by its community members,” Hall said. “Winter Nocturne has greatly benefited our students and the community of Aiken.”

Wilson is an accomplished pianist who has performed in major cities throughout the country and around the world. Originally from the Bronx, he graduated from The Juilliard School and is now a member of the faculty at Bard College Conservatory of Music.
