Hopeland Gardens

  • Wrapped behind a serpentine brick wall, under a canopy of ancient oaks, deodar cedars, and magnolias, is Hopelands Gardens. Bequeathed to the City of Aiken by Mrs. C. Oliver Iselin, the lazy curving paths of this estate lead visitors through a wonderful variety of experiences. Adjoining Hopelands Gardens and Rye Patch, the Wetlands act as a natural filtration system for rainwater run-off from Whiskey Road and add a tranquil marshland setting for all to experience. For more information about Hopelands Gardens and the Rye Patch, click here.

HOPE is a cooperative effort between USCA / Ruth Patrick Science Center and Friends of Hopelands and Rye Patch through a grant from the Hope Goddard Iselin Foundation. This effort aims to enhance students' science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills in grades 2-5 while introducing them to the rich history and amazing fauna found at Hopelands Gardens. The environmental education programs offer hands-on experiences in a stimulating environmental setting. Implementing these programs at Hopelands Gardens encourages students and teachers to experience science and mathematics in exciting yet challenging ways.
